Mission Committee News – July 2024

THE MELANESIAN MISSION – Quarterly Overseas Charity from 1st July – 30th September 2024

The Melanesian Mission is an Anglican missionary agency supporting the work of local Anglican Churches in Melanesia.  The Church of Melanesia covers Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia in the SW Pacific. Selwyn College, Cambridge is named after Bishop George Selwyn who founded the Melanesian Mission in 1849.

We fundraised for the Melanesian Mission a few years ago and Canon John Pinder was our guest speaker at that time.  The donation raised by the congregation at St Mary’s helped to build a much needed dormitory for the girls. John has very kindly agreed to be our guest speaker again and in addition we will be holding a fundraising coffee morning in support of The Melanesian Mission. Both will be held towards the end of the quarter and dates and times will be advertised in due course. There will be leaflets available in St Mary’s giving further details of the work of The Melanesian Mission in SW Pacific from the beginning of July. Donations can be made via The Mission Plate in church and you can find out more about the Mission’s support for Melanesia from their website: www.mmuk.net Thank you, The Mission Committee.

Goodbye to Alan and Liz – August 2020

On Sunday 2nd August we thanked God for the faithful ministry of Alan and Liz over the last 11 years in Sawston and Babraham. In the service, reflecting on Jesus feeding the 5000, Liz reminded us in the children’s talk of how Jesus can use our little offerings to do big things. Alan spoke of Jesus’ compassion for all people and his rule from the cross, with a challenge to open our eyes to who Jesus really is and step out in faith with him.
We are so very grateful for everything that Alan and Liz have done for our church and our community over the years. We pray that God will bless them richly in the next stage of their lives and send them with our love and prayers.
